The three musketeers: D'Artagnan, the bloom of French cinema by using the Hollywoodian recipe
The three musketeers: D'Artagnan is a French movie released in 2023 and directed by Martin Bourboulon.
The movie follows the story written by Alexandre Dumas in 1844 published in series in the newspaper called Le Siècle.
In this movie the spectator follows D'Artagnan's arrival in the French capital city to become a musketeer and all his adventures to become one.
When he arrives in Paris he gets in trouble with three musketeers, Athos (Vincent Cassel), Porthos (Pio Marmaï) and Aramis (Romain Duris), who will become his friends. They fought against the cardinal Richelieu's men who followed them where D'Artagnan (François Civil) was supposed to fight the musketeers.
When King Louis XIII (Louis Garrel) learns the news of the fighting of his men, the musketeers, and the cardinal's he reprimands his men for killing way too many men of the cardinal's army.
D'Artagnan falls in love with Constance Bonacieux (Lyna Khoudri), the lady who rents the apartment of the Gascon, who is one of the Queen's maids. Thanks to his link with her and his place of cadet they will prevent some blows in the royal court in link with the religious tensions of the time, the country is Catholic and doesn't really like the Protestants; Protestants who try to be independent from the French Crown by trying to make the city of La Rochelle independent to have a place for them.
D'Artagnan also have to be quick to save Athos, who will be hang because he is accused to have killed a Lady, Lady who was the emissary of the Queen (Vicky Krieps) for her communication with the Duke of Buckingham (Jacob Fortune-Lloyd), a British and Protestant Lord that she secretly loves.
D'artagnan also has to go in England to take back the Queen's jewels to the Duke of Buckingham, or if he doesn't or is unsuccessful the Queen's status will be compromised and will be publicly shamed but the cardinal also sent Milady de Winter (Eva Green) to also take them but to be sure that the Queen will be ashamed because Richelieu (Eric Ruf) wants the war against the Protestants.
Eva Green said that the movie looks like a painting and I strongly agree with her. Thanks to the camera movements during the battle scenes the spectators feel that they are in it with the characters, which make the scene more vivid and realistic.
Even if some scenes are long and annoying in the second part of the movie it doesn’t put away the fact that they are interesting to study and they are also important to understand what will happen in the next movies.
4.9/5 I cannot give it a 5/5 because the second part of the movie is less vivid than the beginning and I feel a little annoyed after that the Queen gave her jewels to the Duke but this "calm" part is extremely useful for the development of the story.
See you next week for the next article.
