The Matrix, the actual Plato's cave

 

 The Matrix is a series of four movies directed by the sisters Wachowski; they were released in 1999 for the first opus, in 2003 for Matrix Reloaded and Matrix Revolutions and 2021 for Matrix Resurrections.

This series of movies is re-writing of Plato's idea that mankind is living in a fake reality in which we are trapped but believe that this false reality is true and real.

Lana and Lilly Wachowski wanted their spectators to appreciate more philosophy by re-writing the Allegory of the Cave of Pluto in a more actual way.

In those movies we follow the story of Neo/Thomas Anderson played by Keanu Reeves who has a normal life by day but by night he is a hacker. He tries to contact a famous hacker called Morpheus, played by Laurence Fishburn. Morpheus finds Neo first and asks him to follow his instructions if he wants to meet him, which Neo does and meets Trinity, played by Carrie-Anne Moss, who brings Neo to Morpheus. Thanks to them Neo learns that he lives in a fake reality created by the machines and computers who need the energy of mankind to continue to live after a war between them and mankind, which was won by the machines.

Neo has the choice between the blue pill, if he takes this one he'll stay in the matrix and have a normal life, or the red pill, if he chooses this one he'll get out of it. Neo chooses the red one and discovers the reality, which is extremely scary because mankind has to live underground and hidden from the machines and also because we learn the sad truth about what is the real reality.

Neo has to destroy the Matrice to make a better one but his feelings for Trinity will block him to discover the truth because he doesn't want her to die; this point shows that anyone will know the truth about life because we block it due to our feelings for others and if we do want to learn it we must not have attachment in any way.

But despite his feelings for Trinity, Neo saved mankind from the machines.

We thought so for nearly twenty years because Matrix Resurrection shows us that it has not ended at all and the machines are more tricky than this. Neo is back in the Matrix but thinks that what happened in the previous movies is from his imagination and his Analyst says that it is from his mental illnesses and gave him a specific medicine: blue pills.

Neo used his imagination to make video games about the three first movies for the company he works in and one day, at a café, he meets a lady who looks exactly like Trinity, they get to know each other and realize that it was true when Morpheus, who is completely changed after the final battle of the third movie, tell them the truth.

The three of them with some Men of the real world will finally defeat the Matrix.

Those movies are extremely interesting because it makes the spectator rethink their perception of what is reality and make them rethink their whole perception of the world and by making it more actual by using an actual setting and by turning it into a movie it brings more easily the youth to think about that.

The fourth movie was too much because the third movie, by finishing the way it does, let a cliffhanger and, by that, makes the public imagine what would happen next but also because this movie was way too much and doesn't really take back the universe in its continuity. I think that this movie was mainly done for the money rather than giving a final point to the universe.
