Barbie, a way to criticize the world

Barbie was released this summer and was directed by Greta Gerwig.

All the Barbies and Kens, as this big boss of Allan, have a wonderful life in Barbieland.

One day Stereotypical Barbie (Margot Robbie) wakes up and has flat feet (big up at Quentin Tarantino who must have enjoyed this moment) and goes to see Weird Barbie to know what to do to get healed. Weird Barbie tells her that she needs to go to the Real World to meet the person who plays with her and heal them to heal herself.

She gets to the Real World with Ken (Ryan Gosling) who joins her. Once there she realizes that the Real World is horrible for her while Ken discovers patriarchy and feels confident in this world and decides to bring this to Barbieland.

Barbie finds the girl who plays with her and it was a grown up woman called Gloria who works for Mattel. Both of them go to Barbieland joined by Sasha, the daughter of Gloria.

Once in Barbieland is completely changed, the Kens took the power and the Barbies are under their control completely brainwashed.

Stereotypical Barbie is depressed and with Gloria and Sasha she goes to Weird Barbie's place and together, with the outcast Barbies (and also this badass of Allan) they start to get the power back of the Barbies and make the power of the Kens fall down.

The movie shows that both patriarchy and matriarchy are both nasty and that the society should be equalitarian. It depicts very well what women live in their day to day life and want to make the public aware of it.

The messages sent in this movie are shown in a humorous trait to keep the childish universe of the dolls.

5/5 the music, the messages, the script and the cast were simply perfect.

See you next week for the next article. We can even share a raclette together.
