Gladiator, the come back of the Roman Empire

Gladiator is a 2000 movie directed by Ridley Scott is an epic historical drama.

This movie happens during Antiquity, in 180 AD, and starts with a battle between the Roman armies against a Germanic tribe; a battle which the Romans win.

After this victory the Emperor Marcus Aurelius ask General Maximus (Russell Crowe) to take his place after his death, because he starts to get old and he his scared for the Roman Empire if his son Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix) rule over it because of his mental state, Maximus refuses because he is a warrior not a ruler.

Commodus overheard the conversation and kills his father and proclaims himself Emperor before asking Maximus' loyalty, loyalty that the hero of the movie refuses to give and is arrested for this and is told that he and his family will die for this affront.

He frees himself and rides to his place to save his family and run from the Roman Empire and Maximus issues with it, something he was unable to do because he arrived too late.

Maximus was found by slavers and was made a gladiator when they found out his fighting abilities. His master will take him and some other slaves to fight for the games of the commemoration of Marcus Arelius organized by the Emperor. Maximus wins the games and Commodus asks for his name to know the amazing new recruit.

Maximus found out that his ex-orderly is still loyal to him and his men are ready to make him escape from Roma and even make a plan. Unluckily Commodus learns about the conspiracy from his nephew, Lucius, and makes a mistake and lets Maximus in Roma. The movie ends on a deadly battle between Maximus and Commodus in which both die.

This movie is incredible and makes the spectators want to know more about the Roman games. It is not completely accurate, yes the gladiators were slaves but they did not fight to death. The gladiator's fights were not about fighting until only one of them remains alive but just to be the best without killing the others.

This movie is a romanise epic story, it is a 21st century heroic epic story, Ridley Scott wanted to make a praise for this period with this movie, and for this he asked historians to help him to make the movie to be more historically accurate; even with this there's still historical errors like the fact that gladiators fought to death, in reality they didn't go until this stage and furthermore they weren't slaves at all.

4.9/5 Due to the historical inaccuracies I cannot give a perfect even if the acting, the story and the images were perfect.
